Jimmy Carnelli (Private Drums) has been a freelance Los Angeles recording and live performance professional since 1979. He picked up his first set of sticks at the age of 9 and has been playing and teaching ever since. His experience covers a broad range of musical endeavors including live performing, studio recording, research and development of electronic drums and drum tuning systems, composing and scoring, sales and contracting of musical events and for the last 30 years enjoying his true passion, teaching.
He has worked in a variety of live, recorded and televised performances with artists such a Chuck Negron, Mike Pinera, John Forgerty, Kenny Nolan, Spencer Davis, Danny Gans, Wolfman Jack, Bobby Kimbal and the Los Angeles Raiders Big Band. For 15 years, he was the drummer for legendary pianist Roger Williams where he enjoyed playing live with Roger’s traditional band as well as over 40 symphonies across the United States. He was also featured in two PBS specials with Roger and is also on Roger’s recording of Pop Goes the Ivories released in 2000.
Jimmy’s credits also include developing both the drum retail and educational departments at a local music store and taught over twenty-five students per week from beginning to advanced levels. He specializes in drum set skills, reading music, rudimental execution and tutoring of school orchestra percussion sections and drum lines. Through out his musical career, he has received training from world class drummers such as Peter Erskine, Murray Spivack, Alex Acuna, Efrain Toro, Don Bothwell and Peter Donald. |
