Rachelle
Romeo (Private Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet) began
playing the saxophone at age 10 where she was involved in several
school music programs including award winning jazz ensemble, marching
and
concert bands as well as taking private lessons. After completing high
school, she attended Los Medanos Community College majoring in music
which included a demanding performance schedule of performing solo
recitals, playing in small jazz combos, a saxophone quartet as well as
the wind ensemble. The jazz ensemble in which she performed included
guest artists such as Pete Escovedo, Steve Smith (Journey), saxophonist
Mary Fettig with whom she studied privately, and jazz pianist Rachel Z.
Rachelle then attended California State University at Hayward with a
major in music education and an emphasis on saxophone performance. She
performed in several bands while at Hayward including 3 jazz ensembles,
Symphonic Wind Orchestra and competed in many collegiate music
festivals. One of which, she was awarded soloist of the day at UC
Berkley's Jazz Festival. After attending Hayward State, Rachelle moved
to Los Angeles and is actively pursuing a performance career. She
performs in several bands playing clubs, parties and corporate events.
She has performed with artists such as Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Lisa
Cee, David Longoria, Sweet Baby Jai', BB Chung King and the Buddha
Heads, B.J Sharpe, Sue Raney and many others. She has been a 3 time
featured artist in an annual show called Divas Do the Blues, a show
featuring women in blues. Venues include: BB Kings Blues Club, La Ve
Lee Jazz Club, Cozy's Bar and Grill, Catalina Bar and Grill, The Key
Club, Harvelle's Blue, Arcadia Blues Club, The Cellar, The Little Red
Rooster, Long Beach Terrace Theater (International Association of Jazz
Educators Conference), UCLA's Schoenberg Hall and Ojai Libby Bowl.
Rachelle performs regularly with No Drama, Big Fish, Steely Jam, Toni
Dodd and South Bound Blues, and various bands in Los Angeles. She has
recorded and or toured with bands such as: Tchiya Amet and the
Lighthouse Band, Big Fish, Some Like it Hot, Toni Dodd and South Bound
Blues, Malina Moye, Russell McLain, The Marjo Wilson Band, M.O.R.E
Jazz, various artists and sessions.
